relationship between measurement assessment and evaluation

relationship between measurement assessment and evaluation

There is a strong relationship between measurement assessment and evaluation because after the measurement process in which the quantitative data is collected about the students, teachers or curriculum there is a need of interpretation of numerical data that is known as assessment and after that interpreted data is evaluated. Evaluation consist of the sub process of measurement assessment and evaluation that provides appropriate and useful data used in the final judgement process. That is the way due to which evaluation may be considered as a comulative procedure.

relationship between measurement assessment and evaluation

The relationship between measurement assessment and evaluation is ordered/arranged it means first of all measurements are made and then assessment of data collected from measurement process is take place and at the last evaluation process is performed in order to judge the interpreted data. Thus measurement and assessment play an important role in evaluation process although they are independent.

Interdependent relationship between measurement assessment and evaluation

There is an inter-dependent relationship between measurement assessment and evaluation because in evaluation process the first step is to collect measurement and in second step measurements are interpret and in third and final step evaluation process is performed to judge the measurements.

Measurement

The collection of data about the performance of students in quantitative terms is called measurement.

For Example

• The student of primary level received 4/5 on a spelling test

• The football player threw the ball 200 meters

• The matric student completed all four steps in the science experiment

• The 9th class student obtained 79% marks for a physics’s exam

The collection of data about the teachers performance in quantitative terms is called measurement.

For Example

• The teacher of English subject received 9/10 marks in teaching competition

• The teacher of matric class has 80% knowledge about his subject

The collection of data about the performance of curriculum content in quantitative terms is called measurement.

For Example

• The student of matric class obtained 72/75 marks in english subject after reading curriculum content

• The curriculum content is 80% useful for students

However the collected data have little value by themselves it means that the it requires skill full person in order to interpret and being evaluated.

Assessment

The process of interpretation of numerical/quantitative data measured in measurement process and assigning a mark, a grade, a rank, or leaving a quantitative comment on measured data is known as assessment.

The process of assigning a mark may be in quantitative or qualitative terms it means that when mark is assigned in quantitative term then it may be 70 percent, twelve percentile, third percentile, 90/100 and when mark is assigned in qualitative term then it may be 'distiction' or ‘credit’.

The quantitative data are interpreted after knowing whether or not an intended level of achievement has been attained and then this achievement is expressed by pass and fail or by letter or numerical grade. For example in an examination a student’s mark of 52 percent may be interpreted as a fail or pass or a E level or using passing grade.

An example of assessment in a college maybe where a professor analyse the test score of 22/30 to determine whether that student should fail or pass or what is the grade that should be awarded. In order to assess the student the teacher can know about the performance of student or what achievements are made by the student.

Evaluation

The procedure that is used to make the judgements about the performance of students which are expressed as written comments is called evaluation.

For Example

In school teacher evaluate the students by using the interpreted data about their performance. Evaluation of students is made by teacher after the judgement of their performance. The performance of students clear that it should be promoted or not. The evaluation of students is expressed as written comments on their records cards.

The procedure that is used to make the judgements about the performance of teachers is called evaluation.

For Example

In our educational system the teachers evaluation is made by higher authority. After analysing the performance of teachers the authority decide on the base of judgements that teacher is able or not for promotion. The teacher promotion is based on the evaluation of teachers.

The procedure that is used to make the judgements about the performance of curriculum is known as evaluation.

For Example

When curriculum developers complete the curriculum development process then the last step is to evaluate the curriculum. The curriculum evaluation is the process in which curriculum developers know about the effectiveness of curriculum content and decide that it can be implemented or not after knowing about the quality of curriculum content. The curriculum evaluation is made by the developers by implementing it into schools or gathering reviews of curriculum experts about the curriculum content or presentation of curriculum.
